Emily Hawk is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in African American Studies at Princeton University. Her research interests span dance history, intellectual history, and African American history. Hawk’s current project examines how Black dancemakers of the 1960s and 1970s used the embodied language of movement to share new ideas about history, identity, and culture with the broader American public. She holds a Ph.D. in United States History from Columbia University, and her scholarship has been published in the Journal of Urban History and Journal of American Culture.
